If you know me, you know that I don’t do bugs or creepy crawly creatures or snakes. So imagine the horror when I found out that there was a baby mouse/baby rat in my bath tub this morning.
The last image I saw before going to bed last night was this, courtesy of my Facebook News Feed
So can you guess the first thought that went through my mind when I heard my daughter scream in horror this morning? I raced into the bathroom only to find her standing on the toilet, pointing vigorously to the bath tub. She could hardly get the words out! There was a tiny rat in the tub trying to get out!!!
I honestly was way too freaked out to even think about getting a picture! So I don’t have one to share.
Apparently it came up through the drain last night. We had a lot of rain within the past few days, so there must be high water in the sewage system and in the fields around my home.
Although it was small and kinda cute, you can tell it’s not a garden mouse. It was a baby rat, that will someday grow up to be a big nasty rat!!!! At least I think so. I don’t know if I want to know too much about mice or rats
As if that wasn’t enough, I came home from dropping off my daughter at school to this
A garden snake curled up comfortably on my front porch! He was hiding underneath a flower pot which I was getting ready to move to a different corner of the front porch.
………… I think they heard me scream in Oklahoma!!!!!
I am deathly afraid of snakes! Living out in the country, I know they are here in abundance, but the last thing I want is to encounter one in my living quarters.
I am a nervous, paranoid wreck at the moment! I keep looking around the house expecting some creepy creature to jump out at me! Oh the horror!
That’s what I get for moving to the country! Well at least that’s how Courtney reprimanded me this morning after I texted her pictures of the snake on the porch.
I need some doTERRA Balance essential oil to calm my nerves for sure!
……..And I need a husband to handle this crazy stuff…….STAT!
Have you had an encounter with a creature invading your personal space? Do tell. I need all the support I can get
Wishing you all a great day!
Looks like you are under quite the invasion! I can deal with bugs- but snakes and critters freak me out. We actually had 5 birds get in our house through the garage over the last few years- now that is a challenge. The more you try to help them, the more they poop everywhere… EVERYWHERE!
Oh wow, glad we dint have those creepy snakes in our heck of the woods!! We do have cute little mice.
We had a snake in our basement last year and I was HORRIFIED! He snuck in through the bulkhead and it was hard finding him because we have a lot of junk down there.
Oh no I hope the invasion of the animals stops soon! My parents cat brings in mice and that is bad enough lol. x
We had a tiny little snake on our porch once. That alone didn’t scare me, but the fact that it was all up in the air like a cobra? Terrified me!
We get a mouse every single winter (we’re in the country too). I hate hate hate hate hate them. I don’t even want to see it dead in a trap. Just get it out and I’ll pretend it never came to visit. I’m not overly keen on snakes either, but if they’re outside, so be it. Better than inside!
Sorry you woke to that!!!
You need to snake to help get rid of the rat!! Do you own a cat?
Lol. I thought the same thing Lindsey. I don’t own a cat. In fact I just found out that my son is deathly allergic to them.
First those snakes freaked me out badly. Maybe a cat would help.
We live in the country, too…so it seems like we get our share of mice and baby squirrels in the house. You would think they’d be afraid to come in with our cat…but no. They creep me out, too..Mark has to handle removing and disposing of them.
OH MY GOSH! A snake and a rat – OOOOHHH! That would terrify me! I hope you picked up a cat or three from the shelter to help with the rat and snake problem!
haha! I would autumn if my son wasn’t allergic to cats
I don’t think I would be all that happy to see a snake on my toilet, I’d close the bathroom door and walk away hoping I didn’t see what I saw.
EEEEEEEK! We had a mouse in a former apartment. I let my husband handle it (and I went shopping.) I don’t do critters well!!
Oh my gosh!!!! Mice don’t bother me, but I definitely don’t want to be around them and luckily I have two cats so I assume that a mouse would be smarter than to enter my home lol. Snakes, however, absolutely terrify me. Even a little gartner snake can make me lose it lol. Being that my cats are indoor cats, I’m on my own when it comes to snakes or anything outside, yikes!
I’d be freaked out, too! That’s one of the many cool things about Alaska, we have no snakes (other than pets that weird people have).
I would freak out too! We lived in a country and yes, garden snakes are so common and they are not poisonous. But, still I don’t like to see them near me. And the mice and rats, they’re disgusting!
This is kind of funny! But also super scary! Glad everyone is ok!!
Snakes just do not work for me. AGHHHHHHHHHH!
I’ve had bats, mice and a raccoon before. It wasn’t all in the same house though. Otherwise, I’d be six feet under right about now.
This is a funny story.
Thank you for the smile
Anytime!!:-)
We have had several mice in the house before. Our cats always got to them before us. So gross!
Snakes totally freak me out! You deserve a special treat for dealing with two critters in one day.
Oh no! Growing up in the country, we saw crazy critters all the time. Luckily, we never got them in the house :\
We had a chipmunk in our basement for a week. Caught him in a trap finally.
If I found a mouse in my house, I would’ve fainted! That’s why we live in a subdivision, so that I don’t encounter any critters.
When I was growing up, we had a rat come up through the toilet. The lid was down but we all woke up to my mother screaming – we thought someone was attacking her. I can still remember her talking about it. Snakes if they are not bright and colorful are good to have around even if you do not like them. They keep rats and mice away!
I do not do snakes. OR rats. I would’ve had a heart attack if I were you!!!
Never mind a husband. You need to move. STAT! LOL
Oh my. I had a friend find a garden snake in her home last year and it was horrible for her. Because i don’t think you can ever get that out of your head.
We had two huge raccoons in our front yard last week and we live in the middle of a very large city.
LOL! I would have thought the same thing if I saw THAT before going to bed!
We have rattlesnakes down here, had a couple close calls
Wow a mouse and a snake in one day! That is super crazy:) Thanks for sharing your story:)
A mouse I could handle. Don’t like em. But could handle. A snake… I would probably loose my mind!!!
I would scream of the mouse too. Garden snakes don’t freak me out too much – outside, anyway. Once a bird flew into my first solo apartment and flew into an open kitchen cabinet. Had no idea until the next morning when thumping sounds came from the kitchen, scaring me half to death!
Oh my gosh. That first photo make me scream out. I freak if I even see a lizard in my house or right outside my back door. A mouse in the tub would put me over the edge.
I would die if I saw those snakes in my house!!! (I would cry at the mouse) but DIE from the snake!
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! This is my nightmare! Snakes, rats, frogs… I hate the all equally and they are in abundance in Maryland. Yay me. :-/ LOL
Nope! I don’t deal with snakes and I don’t deal with rats. As soon as I see something like that in the tub I am calling my husband. That is most definitely his job…of course he doesn’t really want to deal with something like that either…too bad lol.
I freak out. I avoided the upstairs earlier this week because a large spider was in the bathroom. My husband thinks it’s funny, but I don’t.
I am not a snake fan and would have freaked out too!
I keep at least 1 cat in the house at all times. I am totally scared to death of mice — I will pack up and go to a hotel until it’s gone!! LOLOL
Yikes…I would have ran for the hills. I don’t like snakes.
We live in the country so seeing mice and snakes is a normal occurrence! The worst pests that we have to deal with are the o’possums. I hate them, they like to live under the porch and knock over the garbage , they even try to get into the chicken coop – ugh!
Even though our house is somewhat newer, we have had a lot of issues with mice in the past. I think it’s inbred in woman’s DNA to freak out every time they see a tiny little furry scurrying thing; I don’t quite understand because the mice are adorable but once you see one it’s dancing feet, jumping on the nearest piece of furniture and screeching!
YUCK! I can’t handle any of that stuff! Oh how creepy!~
Oh my gosh, how scary on both accounts! Mice are just terrifying to me. I would have trouble going back into that bathroom for at least a week!!
Nope, nope, NOPE! It’s funny – my friend owns a snake, and it never bothers me (I’ve even held it) but man if I ever come across one when I’m not expecting it, I jump out of my skin!! Spiders too – no thanks!!
Snakes don’t bother me so much, but rodents…. NO WAY! I couldn’t handle the mini-rat in the tub.
I may have nightmares now LOL. From both the pictures and your mouse story.
Oh no!! Please don’t have nightmares because of me!
All these pictures of snakes and spiders floating around the internet make me want to stop looking at the internet!!!!!!!!! I have seen the snake in the bathroom picture probably 100 times in the last 2 weeks. It makes me feel sick!!!
So sorry, I certainly didn’t mean to rub salt in the wound. I normally wouldn’t keep circulating this kind of stuff, but as you can see I was writing about my own similar experience.
I cringed as I read your post. I am not sure what I would do if I saw a mouse or snake near my house.
I know! It’s a hard one to scroll through
Thanks for all your comments
Ahh I don’t do rats, snakes, or spiders! My cat usually does a good job at keeping them out of the house!
Oh my this post is creeping me out. Lol, I do afraid of snakes.
Oh my this post is creeping me out. Lol, I so afraid of snakes. I can only imagine how frightened you must have been.
This is truly a frightening experience! First you have a mouse in your tub then a snake in your garden. I wonder what’s next. I sure hope that the worst is over for you. It’s really a traumatic experience for many of us. But at least, you can have a good story to tell with your friends and readers too.
All those snakes freak me out! We had one living in our front yard and I would get the shakes thinking about it getting in my car!
We had a boa in our backyard just few weeks ago. My son wanted to keep him for a pet. I personally prefer snakes to rats, and added bonus, snakes eat rats, but feeding them isn’t fun.
Eeeww yeah snakes freak me out.. But I try to remain calm. LOL
I had a HUGE RAT run across the top of my kitchen cabinets not so long ago. We had all sorts of people come and set traps/plug holes but no one caught anything. I hope it left on its own!
At my other house 20 years ago I had mice. They would come in in winter and I would think I was going crazy. Did you see that?
