Tip For Tuesday: Repurpose An Old Wooden Ladder

After a long weekend of being away in Florida, helping a good friend get set up with a new home, I am now back to the flow of things today and trying to get caught up. So if you missed me yesterday, my apologies, and thanks for noticing that I didn’t post an article. I absolutely took zero pictures while I was away……the weekend was both fun, and a lot of work, but it is good to be home again :-)

Today’s post will be a short but sweet one. I just had to share a valuable Tip for Tuesday, and how to repurpose an old wooden ladder.

Here goes one of the most clever uses of two old ladders that I have ever seen!

Some of you may even have a couple of these old school A-frame ladders sitting in your garage or storage shed. But before you throw them out, take a look at how they can be given new life as a fun and unexpected bookshelf.

If you don’t own any of these wooden ladders, but would like to try this as a DIY project you may be able to find them used on craigslist, garage or estate sales inexpensively.  I found a couple versions new at Sears.com and Ace Hardware.com They are definitely worth picking up.

I love it because it is simple and inexpensive. In this case, I love the color combination (Ladders -Garden Fresh by Valspar; Shelves – Tantalizing Teal by Sherwin-Williams. Of course the sky is the limit with the color choices, but the bolder the colors, the better.

I just love the idea of up-cycling, especially if the result is this great.

Here’s one more project also featured on HGTV.com using a step-ladder

  1. I’ve seen ladders used for decorating, and if done right I think they look awesome! I like the green one here, it does look great!

  2. This is such a neat idea! I have a tiny ladder in my garage that is faded and old. I would love to re-paint it and use it as wall decor in my office.

  3. For the right design style, yes we’d try it. Don’t think it would fit into our current theme right now though.

  4. Those ladder shelves are adorable, I would totally do that – well after my children are grown, my son would probably try to climb it and knock everything down.
It’s super adorable though. I can’t wait to start really ‘decorating’

  5. if I had space, I would totally try one of these ladder projects! I guess it wouldn’t look quite as cool with a metal ladder (which is what I have!) :)

  6. What a brilliant idea! I never think of these things, but it really seems like a tiny bit of creativity sure goes a long way!
I love it on the wall!

  7. I like the second one handing on the wall. It looks so rustic and pretty! Probably would fit in my house, but i can totally see this an old cottage on the beach. (One day :-) )

  8. Super cute! I’ve never seen these ideas. I’ve seen something on Pinterest where someone turned a ladder into a blanket holder.
