Tip For Tuesday: Decorate With Twigs

Spring is almost here! Time to do some cleaning and refreshing of your home after this long dreary winter.

I know I’m not alone on this…. Right? :-)

The best way to get into the Spring mood is to bring the outdoors in with flowers and twigs from your garden. Twigs, you ask? Yes, twigs can be beautiful, and with a bit of imagination and creativity, can add some beautiful texture and rustic quality to a tablescape or mantel vignette.

Take a look at some of the beautiful creations I found while checking out some of my favorite blogs and websites.

How beautiful is this mantel vignette?

These twigs are beautifully displayed in demijohns. Look how wonderfully they work in a grouping!

How about a craft project using twigs to make a mirror or wreath?

Twigs work wonderfully as a light fixture as well. Check out this beautiful chandelier. Perfect for a woodland or garden themed sunroom

Well what if you live in the city and don’t have access to twigs?

Use faux twigs of course!

This is a slippery slope, decorating with faux twigs and flowers. I have seen some really bad fakes. Be sure to choose good quality ones that look like the real thing. It should be very difficult to decipher the real from the fake.

Here is a close up of a faux twig as seen in the picture above from my design studio

This twig comes complete even with the texture of real twigs.

If you are not quite into using real or faux twigs in your home, you can at least get some inspiration from drapery hardware or wall art inspired by the look of twigs.

This piece from Global Views is a favorite of mine. What an amazing focal point this would make above a fireplace!

    • I didn’t make the wreath Amanda, but it is twigs and burlap. You can get the twig wreath form at a craft store like Michaels for about $20 and then add your embellishments like the burlap rosettes

  1. I love the gold twig and the curtain holder! I love how something so simple as twigs can be use to decorate a room to give it that added flare! I would not have thought of that!!

  2. I wonder when can I put twigs at home with 2 children on the house (2 and 3 years old), I can imagine they’d look like spaghetti noodles in 10 minutes. Lol! Nice pics, really!

  3. I live in the woods too and I have a brown glass jug that would look nice with some decorative twigs like the ones in this post. I really like variety in the Southern Hospitality Blog’s photo. Great ideas here!

  4. What is it about something so simple that really does add so much to a room. How often do we walk by twigs on the ground. I actually found some that I plan to use that have baby pine cones attached to them. Not sure quite yet what I will do with them but they were too pretty to pass up and they were free!

  5. This idea is a perfect example of thinking out of the box. It reminds me of every Autumn when my mother would gather straw from the field to use in her Halloween decorations.

  6. wow!,I have no idea that the twigs can be beautiful,:) I hope I had the same talent like you have, i really need your help. Thanks for this beautiful blog.

  7. My aunt would love these ideas – she decorates like this all the time. Me? I’m usually pretty classic and the closest I get to this would be the rock collection on the shelf. Your ideas look great though!

  8. I love the whole decorating with twigs look. I was born in the 50s and raised in the 60s and believe it or not twigs were used quite a bit back then to decorate with.

  9. Gorgeous! I love it–and I love decorating with twigs–especially forsythia, cherry blossom, etc. and, I adore your blog background. okay–so this is my new favorite blog. So happy I found it!

  10. I really like this idea as well. The twig light fixture is very unique. Agree to not go cheap here, as a real estate agent…I’ve seen a lot of bad stuff here. My wife prefers Pottery Barn for these items.

  11. I really like this earthy decor! I used to collect pussy willows which last forever if picked at the right time and ship them to my grandmother in Florida. Plus I used them in the center pieces at my wedding!

  12. I love the idea of decorating stuff with twigs – I have always wanted that idea but never tried it myself because of lack of time – but hopefully, one day I would.
