My last Minute Spring Break Plans

Well it is officially Spring Break and honestly this year it feels like it snuck up on me. I have been so busy with projects for clients and getting the design studio ready for my Spring Open House that I haven’t had time to make any plans.

The weather here in Houston has also made it difficult to get into the Spring mood. I mean it’s like it changes at the drop of a hat – one day a super cold 30 degrees, the next day 79 degrees. Make up your mind already weather! :-)

Anyway, all I have planned so far is heading to Ft. Worth  to help my sister decorate her baby’s nursery. That will be super exciting and fun for me for sure, but not so much for my kids. I will take the opportunity while I am there to visit the World Trade Center that is nearby in Dallas. That for me is like heaven!

I am very excited about spending a day shopping and browsing some of my favorite vendors’ showrooms. Don’t be surprised if you see a blog post about it in the days to come :-)

Well now that I have my Spring Break fun figured out, what good stuff is there for the kids? Hmmmmm, let me think…….

Just living in the city of Houston, you are guaranteed a bunch of fun activities that are great for Spring Break. So many opportunities for a great staycation (boy is that word overused :-) ). There is definitely no shortage of things to do here.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one adventure we go on each year. This is the one time of year where all Houstonians become instant cowboys and cowgirls :-)

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been around since 1932 and is a charitable organization committed to preserving diverse western heritage and encourage agricultural production through education. Their mission statement taken directly from their website sums it up:

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ was organized for charitable, educational and scientific purposes to encourage and promote the breeding, raising and marketing of better livestock and farm products at public fairs and to promote and maintain research and educational functions within the livestock industry. It is the general policy of the Show to utilize, in the fiscal year subsequent to which it is earned, the excess of its revenue over expenses for the furtherance of its exempt purpose, including the granting and/or funding of scholarships, educational endowments, agricultural research projects and other similar programs and the funding of related capital additions and improvements. The funds of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo are used exclusively to meet necessary expenses for its upkeep and operation and in furtherance of the exempt purpose of the organization.

Since its beginning in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has committed more than $350 million to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, School Art participants, and other educational youth programs.

Here is a short video talking about the history of the Houston Rodeo

There are always amazing concerts – not just country singers, but musicians like Usher, Selena Gomez, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, The Jonas Brothers and many others. The next time you are in Houston, check out the Rodeo. It’s a lot of fun!

Other activities I will probably be checking out are The Children’s Museum, Space Center Houston, and if it’s nice weather outside, a waterpark like Schlitterbahn. Of course some mall shopping is in order for my 16 year old daughter. That is her idea of Spring Break fun! :-)

  1. It sounds like it’s going to be awesome for you…a baby shower to help decorate for, the trade center, and some free fun time. Very nice!!! I’d like to go to a rodeo once, and it would have to be in Texas. :)

  2. Sounds like you are going to have a busy Spring Break, ours does not happen for another few weeks. I understand the weather changes, I lived in Florida forever and the weather there was the same, walk out your door in the morning bundled up and then after lunch need shorts. I do not miss that at all. Now that I remember Spring Break is coming, I need to schedule some activities.

  3. Sounds like a lot of fun! The market sounds absolutely amazing. I would love to check that out one year. It seems like you could never get bored there with all of the wonderful things there are to do. Have a great Spring break!

  4. We’re doing the staycation thing this year for Spring Break. It’s so cold out (still) that we didn’t want to travel!

  5. The Dallas Market Center looks incredible. Looks like you’ll be having a lot of fun this Spring Break. I’ll be coming home from college and just catching up with my friends. Nothing much but a staycation sounds great right now. Thanks for sharing :)

  6. I’m from Dallas and yes, Market is fantastic! I love all the ideas you had for Houston area activities. I will keep some of them in mind for our next visit! Thanks!

  7. The weather here changes day to day, as well. It makes it hard to get in the spring spirit. I would have loved to visited the world trade center. Sounds like some amazing deals they have going on.

  8. Your weather sounds like the weather we have been having in Arizona! How fun you get to help decorate for the baby! It is also great that you get to go to the designer center…sounds like a dream for you! :)

  9. My kids are grown and I have retired and a traditional spring break has not been celebrated in this house for quite a few years.

I would love to catch the Livestock show and Rodeo. That would bring back many great childhood memories.

  10. I’ve never been inside the market center and I’ve lived in the area my entire life! Now I’m inspired to go check it out. Have a great spring break!

  11. Wow, that market is really impressive! I wonder if one could actually see everything in a full day shopping there?

I can’t believe you are on spring break already. Ours isn’t until April, so hopefully we will be in warmer temps by then!

  12. I didn’t know that The Dallas Market is one of wholesale market. i would definitely visit there to see if what comes on to make a business. I am actually planning for a spring break of my own ;)

  13. Sounds like you have your plans already and know what you want to do. I’ve never been to Dallas and have only been to San Antonio and loved it there. Congrats on becoming an aunt and would love to see the nursery before and after when you’re done. :)

  14. We still have so much snow and are suppose to get 6 more inches today. The big thing we do during March break is tap trees for syrup on the farm and skate on the river :D have a great week!

  15. It was fairly cold for us this year. So we didn’t do a lot of activities outside for Spring Break (for us it was between March 3-March 10th). Looks like you will be having a really great time.

  16. At this point, I’ll be happy if my son HAS a spring break! They haven’t taken it away yet, but if we get any more snow, I’m not so sure they won’t.

  17. I’m thinking I don’t get out enough. I’ve never been to a showroom like that. I’m not even sure we have them here in my area of the country. It sounds like it would be interesting to shop there though.
