Ok, it’s not really a party! But it got your attention
This weekend was spent spray painting a pair of lamps and a bunch of accessories for the design studio.
I think I spray painted everything but the kids and the dog So, I will apologize now for any typos or mistakes in this post, since I might still be a bit high from all the spray paint
Just kidding; I did wear a mask. I am now regretting not wearing gloves, however
Here’s a snap shot of what I worked on
It all started with this pair of lamps that I have had for a long time. I bought them for a project I was working on about three years ago, but never ended up using them at all. They have since been sitting in the storage closet of my design studio. I like the scrolls and the details of the lamps, but I didn’t really like the dark finish, nor the shades that they came with.
I needed some lamps for the design studio, but they had to be lighter and a bit more feminine. Giving the lamps a light coverage of white semigloss spray paint, allowing the existing crackle finish to peek through a bit, seemed like the perfect solution. Why buy new ones when I can use ones I already own?
Here is the “BEFORE” shot of the lamps
Here are the lamps after spray paint. I like them so much better now. What do you think?
I took it a step further and added a tiny metallic paint detail to the base of the lamps.
It’s a very subtle detail, but it adds a custom touch to the lamps. I will share pictures of the lamps in place with the new shades very soon.
Here are some of the other items I worked on……
These are some ceramic fruits I have had for a very long time in my kitchen at my old house. This was when my taste was a bit more on the traditional side. I decided to spray paint them and use them in the dining room vignette of the design studio. The spray paint didn’t come out that great on the ceramic fruits, but they are still useable
I also spray painted a couple of clay flower pots that will house some beautiful succulents.
I also added the metallic silver detail to the flower pots. These are going to look great with the color of the succulents.
Also a couple of candle holders and a garden sculpture.
As you can see, I was pretty busy.
These items will be strategically placed in little vignettes all around the studio. I can’t wait to share pictures with you
The moral of today’s story: Repurpose, reuse, recycle! Look around your home for items you no longer get excited about. It’s quite possible that you may still like the shape and size, and it is the color or finish that you are no longer crazy about. You can use them in the same way you always have, or find a different purpose.
Spray painting is pretty simple but here are some tips:
- Use a high quality spray paint with primer, easy coverage, and dries quickly
- Wear a mask and gloves
- Do it outdoors and make sure it is not windy out
- Prepare the surface of the item to be spray painted by lightly sanding and dusting
- Using back and forth movement, apply several thin coats instead of trying to fully cover in one application
- Allow the paint to dry in between coats
Like I always say, “spray paint is your best friend”, so have fun spray painting!
Be Inspired!

What a wonderful idea! Now I just need the weather to cooperate so I can stand to be outside for more than 10 minutes.
Fortunately we had wonderful weather on Saturday.
I love to spray paint. I like that it is easy and quick to finish. Those lamps turned out great and looks so new.

Even better Sarah!
I should really take this advice and spray paint some of my older things more often. It really is a great way to freshen things up without spending a boat load of money. Thanks for the motivation. Your stuff looks great and I love the way the lamps came out.
We actually wanted to do some project like this, but it went from 80 to 20…Hopefully, next weekend.
I love your ideas. I too, enjoy recreating items through spray paint!

Wish I’d been invited, lol! I love using spray paint to repurpose old items! Great job!
Beautiful job and i love the touch of steel you added. It gave the lamps a special sheen…
The bases look wonderful now that they look so nice and clean and white! Very pretty!
I love spray painting items to make them look new and match my current decor. I’ve done many items. Another good thing is to combine spray paint and contact paper or wall paper for a more customized look on things with flat surfaces.
Looks like a lot of work but you did an awesome job!
