If you’ve been following my blog for a while you probably know that I have been tinkering away at finishing my old Victorian house turned design studio for a couple of months now.
I have been consistently and inexpensively adding new pieces. This week, I added the new slip-covered sofas, and a few more accessories. Last week was the area rugs. Next week will be draperies, and I am super excited about that addition!!
A few days ago I received a nice bouquet of tulips to cheer me up after a long weekend. Tulips are my favorites, and what better way to display them than on the cocktail table. To complete the cocktail table vignette, I added a few design magazines and books I had on hand from my vast collection, a horse head chess piece that was sitting unused in my garage, a tiny trinket box from my home, and a terrarium left over from a previous project.
You can see a glimpse of one of the sofas in the background. They are still missing pillows and maybe a throw but soon those will be added to finish the look
Here’s what the cocktail table looks like now
Here’s a before shot of the cocktail table
You can see that it is all a work in progress. But soon will be awesomely beautiful!
I have been obsessed with the Instatus photo editor lately, so here is the same picture after being edited with Instatusapp
The key here is that you too can style a cocktail table on a budget using pieces that you already own.
- Start with fresh flowers that you can pick up from your local grocery store or cut from your own garden
- Books and magazines are beautiful and are wonderful to use for decorating. They are great space fillers or for adding height to an object in a vignette.
- “Shop” your home for any decorative objects that you can use to finish the look. You’ll be surprised what you will find, even inside your kitchen cabinets
- Check out garage sales or estate sales for unique finds. Refinish or spray paint if you have to
- If you are crafty, You can make something unique to display
Here are a couple more styled cocktail tables for your inspiration
Notice how books are used generously.
What decorating projects have you been working on lately? tell us about it in the comments below.
Hope you all have a terrific Thursday!
Be Inspired!
Very pretty. I love the addition of books and that chess piece is absolutely adorable. I am also in love with that table coffee table. Great job!
Love the striped walls. I want to do a wall, or even the whole room like that somewhere in my house.
Sigh. My coffee table is now a train table. And it’s covered in toys. How I long to get a coffee table back and cover it with a few awesome books.
Great tips here. A work in progress? Your design studio looks fabulous! You’ve inspired me for sure. I am going to be checking out more of your blog when I have a moment here. My Dad is going to help me re-tile our bathroom. I’m going to love that makeover.
I love the look, slip covers are a great way to help spruce up a room (of course you already know that with your profession). I would love to see the outside of the house/studio. I love the older victorian houses and the way you are decorating yours is beautiful – I want that table!
I unfortunatley cannot do this in my home. My two kids can’t be bothered to leave my decor items on the table- it’s just too tempting for them. Though, I do look forward to a day where my decorations will be left alone and my tables will be beautiful again.
It’s amazing how adding a few items to the cocktail can really make a big difference! Little by little everything comes together nicely! Love your post! They always give me great ideas!
I do like the look you have going with the cocktail table. Good luck w/the draperies, and I look forward to seeing them if you blog about them. I think drapes can really make or break a room for style.
Decorating with fresh flowers are just one of the best things – though caring and tending to them are not the easiest.
I think flowers always make a room look homier. I love the things you added to the table. Looks very nice.
I love the flowers in the room. The room is gorgeous!! I need to start decorating!
Flowers always add a nice touch to any room. I love these ones!
I like the fresh flowers too. And I could stack tons of books on my coffee table instead of keeping them stashed by the couch in a basket.
I love that you design inexpensively. i think your table looks very nice.
That looks so pretty. The flowers provide the perfect pop of color.
Great tips and really love the images! I’m in the middle of decorating my daughter’s big girl room.
I love flowers on a coffee table. I love my coffee table and I try to change out the decorations on it every so often to give it a new look. Right now we are getting read to remodel are kitchen so I have been busy with that.
You do a great job on a budget and it doesn’t take away from the quality of your designs or furniture.
You are inspiring me with lots of great material. Can’t wait to see your finished project
I love the color on the walls! It goes really well with everything in the room! Intersting to see how you can add things to a table to give it lots of style!
I definitely need to jazz up my cocktail table now. I love your ideas!
I liked the second one down with the least amount of items on it:) Sometimes simplicity is quite nice.:)
I like the second – my coffee table always ends up looking cluttered.
Its gorgeous!! I think I am going to have to wait until my kids are gone for things that are intentionally beautiful, though. We use every inch of everything and this wouldn’t last long in my house!
That’s beautiful! I do agree flowers gives extra glamour and the room looks pretty bloom. It is nicely done.
Those cocktail tables are so pretty. I do agree on how flowers add the blends on to make a room so wonderfully ambiance.
Great idea and my wife has found that resale stores have a great supply of these books at a fraction of the price.
I have been doing a similar makeover in my living room. I need to make new slip covers or buy some for the couch. I want a more sleek, classic look than the retro I have going on in there right now.
Thank you all for your great comments
OOO I love that new look for the cocktail table! It’s beautiful!
You’re doing a great job Veronica.
It is looking beautiful.
Thank you Dov!
I love fancy-looking coffee tables! Having a toddler in the house kind of limits what I can do with mine, but I’ll definitely look to you for tips in the future!
I wish i could have a coffee table. With all these boys in the house, i am going to have to wait a few more weeks. I do have to admit, I love the way you decorated the table.
