It’s always fun hearing people talk about some of the unique traditions they do at Christmas time with the family. After all, Christmas is not just about the giving and receiving of presents, but it is about family. It’s the season of the year where we step back and take a moment to be thankful and count our blessings, be joyful, and spend more time with loved ones
What are some unique Christmas traditions that you do with your family each year? Share with us some of those fun and funny things you do.
One of the things my kids love to do each year is making a Christmas ginger bread house. Now that they’re a bit older, we don’t do that as much, but I can recall how much fun it was doing it together as a family
I never said we were good at it This one was done about three years ago.
Another fun tradition we enjoy as a family is celebrating ugly sweater day. Yes you heard it right….Ugly Sweater Day!
This is how it works: We pick a day when the kids are out of school for the holidays and we go to a second hand store like Goodwill Store or Katy Christian Ministries and we purchase three of the ugliest sweaters we can find. We then purchase fabric glue, felt, silly strings, pipe cleaners…..anything we can find at a craft store to “embellish” our ugly sweaters. We then get to work to see who can create the ugliest sweater, Sometimes we get our friends and family involved and post pictures on Facebook to compare. It really is alot of fun!
And then we showoff our ugly sweaters! Don’t you just love them?
We have many other traditions that we do at Christmas time……my son always makes an ornament for the tree each year at school. That’s always interesting seeing them on the tree We also always decorate the tree and the house together as a family
Since it’s just the three of us, we don’t get alot of presents from extended family, but we sure like to feel like we are getting tons, so we each spend $20.00 at the Dollar Store and that way we have alot of presents to open Christmas morning. We also buy one or two real presents from the Mommy Claus lists I get every year.

We do Jennifer. Thank you
Creating a family tradition is wonderful, something that will be passed down to future generations…. if not in actuality, then in the stories about them!
Thanks Meli
You all look great in your ugly sweaters lol love the look on your son’s face lol I actually do’t like Christmas all that much because i feel we over spend a lot at my house. Each year I tell my bf not to spend more than 20$ and each year he goes over the top. I usually found out what I’m getting for Christmas a few days before and then that;s when i end up over spending! Our first Christmas together (in 2005) I bought him a t-shirt and a book…he gave me jewelry…it’s been like that ever since. He says he works hard all year long to save enough to spoil us so i don’t stay mad too long lol. one of our traditions involve decorating the tree while we listen to loud techno music 0.0
That’s very sweet that he saves up to splurge on your gift. I love your tradition of decorating the tree and listening to techno. Lol
I love your creativeness! We started the Elf on the shelf this year for our new tradition and my son LOVES it!
Thanks Laura! That sounds like fun!
