Home Decor Show

A few years ago I did a home décor show called Katy Home Décor and Remodeling Show. This was at the height of the economic down-turn, so the results of doing the show were not what I had hoped for, but I did meet two of my greatest clients there. I’ve been thinking about doing another show for Spring 2014, so I have been looking back at photos of my booth from the previous show. Here are a few photos that I’d like to share with you.

I decided to do a living room vignette in this small 8′x8′ space to make it inviting for my patrons. I had a wall built from 2×4′s and plywood as a backdrop for my custom drapery panels and art to give it the feel of a real living room. Much better than the blue and maroon polyester draping that came with the booth. I then added the upholstery, rug, cocktail table and accessories to finish the look. My booth was a hit at the show! In fact one patron referred to it as the “sexy” booth :-)

Here are a few more pictures.

So here’s the big question: If I decide to do the show for Spring 2014, what room vignette should I do? A dining room, a bedroom or another living room? I’d love to get your opinions. Please leave me a comment below and share this post.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Be Inspired!

  1. I think it depends on what you want to accomplish. It’s great to do another living room but it might be nice to see a different room. Bedrooms are the place where people seem to want to really enjoy when they’re at home. I’d love to see what you come up with for a bedroom.

    • I have been leaning towards doing a bedroom with a bench at the foot of the bed. People really enjoyed sitting down in my booth and chatting about their decorating challenges

  2. WOW! That is a beautiful display. Congratulations on seizing upon your talents and skills, and always finding ways to learn more. I admire your work and efforts!!!!!

  3. Awesome way to get creative and show your talents and rise above the rest. I vote for Kitchen. Invite them in for some nourishment and comfort. Kitchens are the gathering place in any home.

    • Thanks Mary! There are literally a ton of kitchen and bath displays at these shows, so I would have to take mine to the next level. Perhaps incorporating a dining area with really comfortable seating like a banquette. That would probably require two booths

  4. I agree that you should think about what result, who is your ideal client? What would they like to see? What would intrigue them? Have you been doing living rooms? How did the visitors to the show respond to your display? Did they come and sit on the furniture? Did they relish in the way they felt in your creation? (That’s what I would have done) if you do a bedroom, would everyone want to lay down on the bed? LOL!

    • Great points Loretta! People were actually relieved to see a booth where they didn’t feel like they were being “sold” , or something being demonstrated to them. They liked that they could sit awhile and talk about their home. They got a very good idea of what I could do in a room of their home. People commented that it felt like they were at home, which is what my goal was.

  5. I would actually love to see some kitchen ideas, especially around space management for equipment, utensils and small kitchen electronics. Perhaps maximizing storage space, while still looking fashionable.

  6. Thanks for your great comment Tom, but there are usually quite a bit of kitchen and bath displays at the shows and I want my booth to stand out from the rest. Kitchens aren’t my main niche since most of my clients are new homeowners with newly built homes. I could think about getting a bigger booth and do a kitchen/breakfast room vignette incorporating comfortable seating, like a banquette and of course some storage solutions as you suggested.

  7. I think a bathroom would be fun to see. Yes, I’d LOVE to see what you come up with for a bathroom. And if you want to be different, consider doing a laundry room!!! And don’t forget to add the fresh flowers!

  8. I know I wouldn’t do a bedroom. I feel the living room or dining room would be more inviting. I’m going toward the living room.

  9. that would knock the socks off many of the home shows I go to .. Sometimes it is a big investment for the immediate returns but sometimes it pays off good !
