Custom Drapery Panels On A Budget Using Burlap

Custom drapery panels are one of the least expensive, yet beautiful options to dress up a naked window. Drapery panels can be functional, which means that they are made to close completely for privacy and protection from the sun, or they can be non-functional. This means they are decorative fixed panels that are not meant to close to cover the window. If privacy is desired, a window treatment such as blinds, shutters, roller shades, honeycomb shades etc, usually acts as the first layer or privacy layer, with the non-functional drapery panels as the second layer adding softness, color and style.

Depending on fabric choice, window size and hardware chosen, drapery panels can range anywhere from $1500 to several thousand dollars not including installation! But with my custom drapery panels available on my online store, you can get the same great quality for a lot less!

My custom BURLAP drapery panels start at only $269.00 per pair!! This includes your choice of color from twenty different options, your choice of lining (sateen or blackout), or you can choose unlined or even add interlining. You also get to choose the header or pleat type (grommets, French pleat, pinch pleat, cartridge pleat) and of course the finished length desired. There is also the option for color-blocked panels, which means that you can use up to three different colors per panel. Here are examples of burlap panels from my design studio display (The two drapery panels on the right)

  1. Thanks for your great comments. Just a FYI – the price difference with drapery is vast…there are many factors that contribute to the pricing. Most people go with finer fabrics like silks and linens which accounts for the higher starting price. Burlap is a more modestly priced fabric in general and isn’t often used for draperies, although it’s become more of a trend these days. The point of this post is to show that burlap can be just as beautiful as typical draperies for a lot less.

      • Tina, these burlap fabrics are specifically made for draperies so thy don’t have an odor. They just have the texture similar to the utilitarian version. They smell just as wonderful as my high-end $300 per yard fabrics! :-)
Samples are available if needed! :-)

    • You may need functional panels that are able to close fully to block the sun filtering through your shutters. Contact me if you ever decide to get those :-)

  2. How do they get those ones on the right to be BEHIND the pole instead of like the other ones? Never seen that before :)

    • Lol. Robin, I just hung it there temporarily to take the picture for the blog post. It is actually hanging on a smaller rod that is sitting on top of the brackets holding up the front rod. My installer wasn’t available to hang it for me yesterday :-) Great eye for catching that!
