Let’s do the TGIF happy dance!!
I am really happy this hectic week is coming to an end. I can put my feet up at least for the weekend until reality hits again on Monday. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but relaxing is great too!
Ok, so here’s another snippet of a room I completed last year.
This room is actually a very large library, that is jam packed with books. My client loves books and has them proudly displayed in wall to wall bookshelves throughout the room. This is a really close knit family, and they all hang out in this room, although they have several other family areas in the home (let’s see, there’s mom and dad, 4 at home, one on the way, one in college and two grown up and on their own….I think I’ve got everyone covered )
This is the same family I have worked with on multiple projects. When it came time to do this room, their requirements were:
- A seating area (she was thinking just two chairs)
- Keep all the books!
When styling bookshelves I like to mix books with other objects, but in this instance, I kept the books exactly the way they were in the room….because they do get used.
I completed the seating area with a small library table with wrought iron detail, custom chaise lounge, custom upholstered occasional chairs (notice the fabulous two toned fabrics?), a custom upholstered ottoman that doubles as a cocktail table and on the other side of the room, a round table and 4 cube ottomans where the kids can do their artwork and play board games. Of course, no room is complete without some pillows and accessories. My clients already owned the area rug, so that dictated our color scheme. I custom designed and had the gorgeous red silk draperies fabricated (notice the wonderful greek key trim detail?) Just amazing!
Here’s a close up shot of the greek key trim detail
Here are some other views of the room.
Notice the beautiful cut velvet fabric on the backside of the chairs and the rich and luxurious chenille on the front of the chairs. My clients love these custom touches, and I love to give it to them. These fabrics were very high-end but also made to last.
And check out these fun ottomans for the kids. They are custom upholstered in a beautiful faux leather python print. Notice the greek key detail is repeated on the nailhead trim?…..yep, it’s all in the details
Ok I have to admit that I don’t have pictures of the full view of the room. Why? At the time of install, hubby wasn’t home to clean his desk and we didn’t want to touch anything that he might be working on He is a doctor, so a life could depend on that decision
So from this large library, I created two wonderful seating areas where the whole family can hang out, plus a desk area that can accommodate two users, and of course tons of storage for the beautiful books. This library/family hang-out can now comfortably seat around 9 or 10 people! That is awesome!

Wishing you all a fabulous Friday and a fantastic weekend!
Be Inspired!
Gorgeous! I have, out of necessity, done this very thing in my front room… Of course not as stylish as this room, but still very functional.
Absolutely love those chairs! ! Loving that design on the back. Looking good! Great work!
Thanks Leonie. I didn’t have to convince my clients when I chose that fabric. They loved it right away!
This is just reminding me of how I want my dream home to look like, really awesome pix
My grandpa was a bookbinder.
The library has a warm feeling
I just read a couple of the ladies comments… I’m amazed at how much detail and work can go into interior, like with the hangers around the windows…
There is a lot that goes into decorating a room! That’s why we make the big bucks
Just one word for this superb post…. Stuff!!
I always loved libraries.. Can spend hours in there
This one has a very cozy touch

Thank you Maria
Love it! Enjoyed the pics and reading the post, reminds me of someone I used to know,, a dear old friend who had this amazing study, walls lined with books, things like this always remind me of him.
Glad you like it Natalie!
I liked your chair design, will try it at my home.
Thank you Gangesh
I love it. Love libraries and being around books. So much knowledge to gather.
Absolutely. This client literally has thousands of books and he knows where they all are and can give you a brief snap shot of the contents!
That is an adorable space to be in!
I dont know about a “hang out” but absolutely gorgeous to kick back and get some serious reading/studying complet!
Awesome Original post!
Thanks Arther!
The room looks very warm and inviting! i would sit there!
Thanks Rob! or I could design one for you!
Totally dig those chairs!
Thank you. Those are my favorites too. They were such masculine looking chairs, so I chose the fabric on the back (which kinda resembles a corset to me) to “soften” them a bit. Glad you like them
I love this! We hope to have a home library one day!
Thanks Heather! I’m sure it will be beautiful when you do
I want to curl up in that library with a good book. Have a nice relaxing weekend.
You too Alli. Thank you!
That’s such a great room. My husband and I have so many books and we have a small house. We have bookshelves in the living room, the second bedroom and the master bedroom. Would love a better solution.
Thanks Deborah. There are a lot of creative ways to display your books, but I like when they are all together in the same space. Gives so much more importance to them when they are in displayed as a collection
I have always wanted a library. I DREAM of a library. I have books everywhere, and I keep accumulating them. Now I am even adding notebooks to my books (someplace to keep the papers that I print information off the ‘net). This library is amazing and I am one envious lady!
Lol. Thanks Tina. I love libraries too. I have tons of books and magazines that need to be proudly displayed
The post contains a great stuff and my love for libraries will surely increase to a great extent with such perfectly designed rooms.:)
Thanks Souvik
