Mother’s Day Outfit Inspiration

I guess it depends on how you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day, but have you given any thought to what you will wear?

I haven’t decided really. I am the get up and go kinda person when it comes to dressing up to go out, but somehow my outfits always seem to come together beautifully (If I do say so myself :-) )

I will definitely be going to church like I do every Sunday, and of course Mother’s Day brunch afterwards. Hopefully my daughter will pay for brunch :-) She can afford it. She now works at Rainforest Café as a greeter in addition to her baby-sitting and dog-sitting gigs :-)

So as I was thinking about what I might wear on Sunday, I thought it would be fun to put together a Polyvore board with an outfit that inspires me, and one I would love to wear.

What do you think?

I just love the beautiful Valentino dress because of all the colors and the gorgeous pattern that has a worldly and more exotic feel. It definitely would be a head-turner. The lines of the dress are fairly simple, and the fit quite modest compared to what I normally would choose, but I think it is just gorgeous! This dress retails for $2490 so I will never own it, but I can certainly appreciate it.

The wonderful orange and metallic strappy sandals are Jimmy Choo and they retail for $795. Also one I will admire from a distance.

The Knuckle box clutch is Alexander McQueen and I just love it. It totally could double as a weapon. Lol. This one retails for $2295…..ouch!

The Burberry sunglasses are $230 and the Sairo bracelet is from Pieces.com and retails for $24

So clearly this outfit will serve as inspiration, but if you recently won the lottery, feel free to buy it for me :-)

I would love to hear how you will be spending Mother’s Day and what you plan on wearing. And guys, just so you are included in the fun, tell us what you will be doing for the mothers in your life

Monochromatic or Mucho Color

Do you like a calm monochromatic color scheme in your home or one full of vibrant color?

I personally love color, but I’ve found myself lately moving towards a more monochromatic color scheme in my personal decorating choices.

Which one is more your taste?

Tips for working with a Monochromatic color scheme in your home

  • Use various shades and tints of the same color
  • Avoid mixing cool and warm. Keep the colors in the same color family
  • Add subtle pattern and lots of texture to add interest and a good balance
  • Maximize lighting
  • Mix slick, shiny surfaces with rustic surfaces for maximum impact

Here’s a monochromatic room I recently completed

Tips for working with color in your home

  • Keep the backgrounds like wall color and larger upholstery pieces neutral and add color in accessories
  • Spread color around the room for balance. The 60,30,10 rule is a good place to start: 60% of a dominant color (example - wall color), 30% of a secondary color (example - upholstery) and 10% of an accent color (example - accents or floral arrangement)
  • Add a touch of black (example – in picture frames, or a lampshade)
  • Keep color value (color lightness or darkness) in mind for balance. Darker values work best on the floor which helps to anchor the room.
  • Use a fabric or rug from the room as inspiration for your color choices
  • Make sure colors flow from one room to the next.
  • Look to nature for color clues
  • Remember color affects your mood, so choose carefully
  • Live with color before committing if it scares you – ask for samples and view at different times of the day….especially for wall color.

Here’s one of the more colorful rooms I’ve done recently.
