I actually decided to mix food ingredients together and make something tasty……
That doesn’t happen very often in my household, because I would take eating out any day over cooking or preparing a meal. I am just not very creative when it comes to recipes and food ideas. It’s just not my thing.
Don’t get me wrong, I can cook a mean Jamaican meal – curried goat, rice and peas, jerk chicken, fried plantains, oxtails…you name it. But with my lifestyle as an almost raw vegan, there is no longer any room in my diet for my native dishes.
Recently I came across an article featuring the recipe for fudge squares. For the life of me I still cannot recall the source of the article, nor the exact ingredients, but I decided to give it a shot based on my recollection - with my own twist of course.
I got a little help from my favorite helper, my 12 year old son Josh. He was mostly the photographer, and the chocolate mix licker upper
It turned out pretty darn good, so I thought I should share my version of the amazing vegan chocolate fudge squares. I am a lifestyle blogger after all, and cooking had better become a part of this blog, right?
Ok let’s start with how my chocolate fudge squares actually turned out
Yummerific! Right? I can see those mouths watering
Ok here are the ingredients
- 1 Cup of pitted medjool dates
- 2 Ripe bananas
- 1/2 Cup raw unsalted almonds
- 1/4 Cup raw unsalted walnuts
- 2 Separate 1/4 cups of unsweetened cocoa
- 4 Tbsp natural almond butter
- 4 Tbsp unpasteurized honey or agave
Here’s my loot from Whole Foods
I finally got the chance to use my Ninja food processor that I got for Christmas. It’s the professional grade. Haha is right
- Soak the dates in a cup of warm water for 30 minutes, then drain
- Mix together in the food processor – dates, almonds walnuts, and one of the 1/4 cups of cocoa powder. Make sure they are well blended.
- Spread mixture in a 9×5 baking pan until evenly distributed. Press gently with a spoon
- Mix together in the food processor – bananas, almond butter, honey, and the other 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. Make sure they are well blended.
- Spread mixture over the bottom layer until evenly distributed
- Place in freezer for about an hour
- Cut into squares. Will serve about 12-16
- Refreeze leftovers
Here again is my delicious chocolate fudge squares. Well I cut a huge rectangular slice
So what do you think about my delicious chocolate fudge squares?
Feel free to try your own version, and let me know how it turns out

I’ve seen this recipe before. Came from one of the health coach sites. Looks great.
That is perhaps where I saw it. I couldn’t recall where it came from.
Dates for chocolate fudge.. never thought of that but it actually sounds really good, bc I love dates. I’ve made vegan brownies only once before, from prepackaged material that I had to mix w/water. Your fudge looks far better though!
Thanks Ronnie. Medjool dates are very sweet, so they are perfect for dessert items. I use them daily in my salads too to add a bit of sweetness
Those really do look good. I am a chocoholic!
Thank you so much for this recipe. Finally one I can eat. Normally when I visit blogs, their recipes are loaded with suger. Now this is the way I eat.
I have never used dates for cooking or baking but this recipe looks delicious. Recipes like this give me more interest in wanting to try to diversify what I use in my cooking.
Totally need to try it! It looks so delicious!
I don’t have a lot of these ingredients but I’m really curious to know how this fudge taste like. So I will keep this recipe near me and see about picking the items up on my next grocery trip. Will let you know how it turned out! =)

Would love to try this. It’s super chocolatey.
That looks amazing, I was surprised at the ingredients though. I will definitely give these a try. I am a bit jealous, we used to live near a Whole Foods and recently moved, there isn’t one near me now and I miss my favorite seasoning.
I don’t know what I would do without my Whole Foods. If it’s just non-perishable seasonings, I can pick I yup for you and send to you
I make something just like this. It’s so so good! I love it ! These look great going to pin them.
You did great! It looks fantastic and I’m pinning to my vegan board!
