Summer is here, and it’s time to look forward to some fun in the sun and maybe even a summer get-away with the family!!! Yay!
Summer is big here at Casa Vilora Interiors and No Naked Windows, it is our busiest time of year for window treatments! This is when homeowners give special thought to the very hot temperatures here in Houston, and figure ways they can save energy.
Any window treatment is better than naked windows when it comes to energy savings. Window treatments can reduce energy use in your home, and are less expensive than purchasing new, energy-efficient windows. In addition to saving energy, window treatments can be aesthetic additions to your home. Even if your windows are already energy efficient as in most newer homes these days, your home still benefits from additional layers of protection from the sun.
Here is some more informational from Energy.gov about the energy saving benefits of investing in window treatments, whether blinds, shutters, cellular shades, draperies or shades. Click here to read the article.
With energy and money savings in mind, our new Mascot, Shelly the Turtle has been busy promoting our Summer Window Treatment Sale available both locally and through our online store. Take a look

And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The answer to “What The Heck It Is?”
In my previous post titled “Designer Thingies: What The Heck Is It?”, I asked you to guess what the heck this product below is and what it is used for. Take a look
Are you ready for the answer?!!
Well here goes!! But first, let me give a shout out to Robert Manea of Kung Phoo fame and Yvonne Brown for coming close to the answer.
Time to reveal the answer:
It is called a decorative drapery grommet and it is used for hanging drapery panels (they can be used to embellish pillows as well). Here’s an example.
Thanks to everyone who participated in guessing what the heck it is. Please check back daily for valuable decorating tips and ideas, fun contests where you can win fabulous prizes, and of course more fun guessing what the heck it is

I like shutters and natural woven shades – very retro and yet totally modern! I do like the what the heck it is comp – a great trick to get people coming back frequently!!
Thanks Luke!
Man we were that close!! i guess my mother in law rubbed off on me more than i knew!
She sure did!
Love your posts. Gorgeous blinds.
Good morning from HOT HOT HOT Phoenix! And it’s even a bit humid today (the monsoons are coming early this year). Why do I mention this? Because our window coverings are part of our lives! I even hung a sunshade inside my home between the drapes and my arcadia door to shield more sun/heat. It’s a way of life. Your ideas are beautiful, and I particularly like the shutters.
Thanks Tina! you guys in AZ know all too well the importance of energy efficient window treatments
I like brown shutters
Tucson also gets very hot in the summer and window treatments are one of the ways to keep your home cool during the midday heat. It does make a huge difference in the temperature of your house and how much energy you use to cool it.
YAY!!! We were close!! I just didn’t know the fancy name for it! Thanks for the education and the shout out!!! Fun!
Yvonne Brown
Anytime Yvonne! I would have made your name a clickable link as well but I was on my iPhone at that point. It’s really hard editing a blog post from an iPhone
Thanks so much for participating in the fun!!
Very Nice Designs!
It does look like a decorative drapery grommet now that I see it
What a great assortment from which to choose! Energy savings is a win win!! Thanks Veronica!
We just had new windows installed on our house about 6 months ago. I know how important it is to treat your windows! Our light bill was sky high before we got our new windows and had them treated.
Great decor, and great savings. That’s worth spending a few extra dollars to the house look nice knowing I’m getting it right back in the utility bill.
Love having your blog in my reference list!!! I truly must replace my window coverings. I have mini blinds now and a cord is broken inside. They are over 20 years old! I love the honeycomb shades… but I also love shutters! wish i could make up my mind!!!
Thanks Loretta! Shutters and honeycomb shades are very different products, and different price points. When you’re ready, we can talk about the features and benefits and even cons of each product. That way you can make a more educated decision. Let me know when you’re ready to say bye bye to the broken mini blinds
ABSOLUTELY I will! Thank you Veronica!!!
Can we play more games please ?
Of course Dov. Anything for you
Man, I remember when a flag was the only window dressing I needed. Thought it looked pretty cool, too!
